Many people dislike the alignment of their teeth and bite and wish that they could have straighter teeth to give them a wonderful smile. There are orthodontic treatments that can help these people achieve their dream smile but many of these people they dislike the prospect of wearing a mouthful of metal braces for two or three years even more. Our Meridian Charter Township dentist, Dr. Brian Carlin DDS has a possible answer for these people. The Invisalign System solves uneven bites without wires or brackets.
Instead of bonding metal brackets to the teeth and connecting them with arch wires as in traditional metal braces or even substituting clear or tooth-colored brackets and plastic wires with ceramic braces the Invisalign System uses no brackets or wires and doesn’t bond anything to the teeth. Instead the Invisalign System uses a series of clear plastic trays called aligners to move teeth. Our Meridian Charter Township dentist will examine your mouth and take 3-D images of your teeth and jaw, which are sent to Invisalign where the series of snug fitting aligners are custom made for each patient. The patient will wear each tray all day and night for two weeks and then replace it with the next tray in the series. Each tray is designed to move the teeth a little bit more into position. There are between 13 – 48 aligners in the series depending in the individual patient’s case. After all the aligners in the series have been used the treatment is complete.
Invisalign has two big advantages over traditional braces. First, the Invisalign aligners are virtually invisible so no one knows that you are undergoing an orthodontic treatment. Second, the aligners are removable for meals and to brush your teeth afterwards. This means that users can eat whatever they want without fear of bending wires or loosening brackets as with wire or ceramic braces. It also makes tooth care more effective to brush and floss with no braces to encumber the process. However, Invisalign is not a good solution for everyone and our Meridian Charter Township dentist will conduct a comprehensive examination of each patient to see if they are a good candidate for the Invisalign System and will then discuss all the details of the treatment with you so you can make an informed decision. If you have an uneven bite make an appointment with our doctor to see if Invisalign can help you.
