Many people do not enjoy going to the dentist, and some even go years without a check-up or cleaning. This can be due to one’s fear of needles, drills, or other dental instruments, past traumatic dental experiences, or the general discomfort associated with the smells, noises, and tastes of dental work. Financial concerns may also be keeping you from making an appointment with your dentist. However, receiving dental care from no longer has to be an anxiety-filled experience. The success of our Okemos family dentistry office is built on our professional ability and the genuine concern for each and every one of our patients, focusing on their individual needs in order to provide them with experienced, compassionate, and affordable dental care.

At the dental office of Brian Carlin DDS, our practice is focused on meeting the needs of you and your family. By attending in-depth exams and cleanings, we can help catch problems concerning your teeth and gums earlier than ever, potentially saving you time and money. We believe in a preventative approach for one’s oral hygiene by creating and maintaining beautiful and healthy smiles. Teeth, whether natural or with restorations, survive and thrive in an oral environment that is clean and hygienic. Our preventative program of family dental care is designed to prevent new cavities, preserve restored teeth, and manage periodontal disease for patients of all ages. During your semi-annual visit with us, we will do much more than merely clean your teeth and gums. Our Okemos family dentistry will perform a complete oral examination which includes an oral cancer screening, periodontal evaluation, and an analysis of your occlusion (bite). This ensures a thorough examination of your teeth, their supporting structures, and of the oral anatomy. Remember, healthy gums are just as important as your actual teeth. Visiting our dentist every six months for routine teeth cleanings are an incredibly effective method in preventing future dental problems, such as periodontal disease. It is important to prevent gum disease as infection and inflammation of the tissues that support your teeth can erode the ligament and bone beneath the gums, resulting in tooth loss and expensive dental procedures. We provide regular examinations of your gums during checkups with a periodontal probe and regular x-rays. If periodontal disease is diagnosed, your doctor will discuss with you which of our services will best suit your individual needs.

We know that many people may feel anxious about coming to see their dentist, so it is our goal to make their visit with us as pain and anxiety free as possible. From the moment you walk into our Okemos family dentistry office, you will receive a warm and friendly welcome. So whether your dental needs include a complete exam and cleaning, a full-mouth restoration, or anything in between, the family dental care practice of Brian Carlin DDS will provide you with exceptional and compassionate care every step of the way. Call our office or consult our website for further information regarding any of our dental services, to learn more about our family dentist, or to schedule an appointment. Let our family take care of yours.

Many people dislike the alignment of their teeth and bite and wish that they could have straighter teeth to give them a wonderful smile. There are orthodontic treatments that can help these people achieve their dream smile but many of these people they dislike the prospect of wearing a mouthful of metal braces for two or three years even more. Our Meridian Charter Township dentist, Dr. Brian Carlin DDS has a possible answer for these people. The Invisalign System solves uneven bites without wires or brackets.

Instead of bonding metal brackets to the teeth and connecting them with arch wires as in traditional metal braces or even substituting clear or tooth-colored brackets and plastic wires with ceramic braces the Invisalign System uses no brackets or wires and doesn’t bond anything to the teeth. Instead the Invisalign System uses a series of clear plastic trays called aligners to move teeth. Our Meridian Charter Township dentist will examine your mouth and take 3-D images of your teeth and jaw, which are sent to Invisalign where the series of snug fitting aligners are custom made for each patient. The patient will wear each tray all day and night for two weeks and then replace it with the next tray in the series. Each tray is designed to move the teeth a little bit more into position. There are between 13 – 48 aligners in the series depending in the individual patient’s case. After all the aligners in the series have been used the treatment is complete.

Invisalign has two big advantages over traditional braces. First, the Invisalign aligners are virtually invisible so no one knows that you are undergoing an orthodontic treatment. Second, the aligners are removable for meals and to brush your teeth afterwards. This means that users can eat whatever they want without fear of bending wires or loosening brackets as with wire or ceramic braces. It also makes tooth care more effective to brush and floss with no braces to encumber the process. However, Invisalign is not a good solution for everyone and our Meridian Charter Township dentist will conduct a comprehensive examination of each patient to see if they are a good candidate for the Invisalign System and will then discuss all the details of the treatment with you so you can make an informed decision. If you have an uneven bite make an appointment with our doctor to see if Invisalign can help you.
